Lubricants

HDD machines are equiped with drill pipes of alloy steel with a high quality. This material has very good specifications for the purpose for which they were designed. One of the major drawbacks of this materials is that they are prone to galling when they are rubbed against each other under load. This is especially true for the screw threads and will lead to premature wear. In order to protect the threads special lubricants have been developed. A good lubricant for drill pipes prevents galling and has a high static friction to avoid “overtorquing” of the thread wires.
